Will there be a theatre up there?!

Georgia | 55 mins | 2011 | Documentary, history
Director: Nana Janelidze

Synopsis: The Soviet Union – and the tragic destiny of people who lived in this system is reflected in the biography of the great actor Kakhi Kavsadze. He is one of Georgia’s most popular actors but the film is not about an actor. It depicts the chronicle of the Kavsadze family – a family of great folk singers – and their story reflects the lives of millions who lived in the former USSR, stories of people who participated in World War Two, were first put in concentration camps in Nazi Germany and then in the concentration camps of the USSR. Despite this dreadful fate, Kakhi became a great actor. His personal love story is also full of romance and dramatic detail and is known in Georgia as the Legend of Love and Loyalty. This is a wonderfully creative re-telling of history and a memerising performance by Kakhi Kavsadze.

Germany | 103 minis | 2014 | Drama
Director: Edward Berger

Synopsis: Jack runs. Everything he does is infused with purpose, every muscle in his taut little body focused on getting things done. Getting up on time. Waking his little brother Mauel. Going to school. Preparing dinner. A lot for a child. But with a single mother, Sanna, who’s sweet, girlish and utterly unable to cope, Jack runs the house. Until an accident breaks their little community apart: Child Welfare assigns Jack to a state-run home. When the holidays arrive, but Sanna doesn’t pick him up and another boy bullies him with tragic results, he flees. On foot. Across the vast expanse of Berlin. To Sanna, who is nowhere to be found. Picking up Manuel, he crisscrosses the city in search of his mother. After what seems like an eternity, Jack finds Sanna. And comes to a drastic realization…
