What is it?

Sabah Pitching Forum is a meeting point for the financing and promotion of ASEAN documentaries.  It is a platform for filmmakers from this region to launch their latest film projects and to find the right connections to get their projects financed and distributed.

Who is it for?

Producers/directors can pitch directly to the market (potential buyers, co-producers and financiers) from the region, raise the visibility and market viability of your projects, look for co-producers, financiers, buyers.  The KKIFF is looking for 12 film projects to be part of the Sabah Pitching Forum 2014.

Buyers can find and finance some of the latest documentary projects from South East Asia directly from the filmmakers.

Sabah Pitching Forum – programme outline

  1. Prepare your pitch – at the Pitching Workshops on Friday, 6 June with Marcus Vetter (Germany) and Nick Deocampo (Philippines) – receive systematic pitching training
  2. Practise your pitch – at the Pitching Tutorials – Friday, 6 June and Saturday morning, 7 June – individual and small group sessions with the mentors
  3. Present your pitch – to the Sabah Pitching Forum Panel on Saturday afternoon, 7 June – structured as 5-7 minutes of pitching, followed by 8 minutes of comments, questions and discussion

What to pitch?

  • A synopsis
  • A finished trailer
  • New or recent work
  • Films in different stages of development with complete screenplay available

The projects must respond to the following criteria:

  • the director must have already made one or several films (short, medium-length or feature)
  • the script of the project must be completed
  • the project must have a producer and initial financing
  • the date of shoot must be stipulated

Who is on the Sabah Pitching Forum Panel?

Commissioned editors, broadcasters, distributors, investors…

  • John Badalu – producer, film festival director, festival delegate for festivals such as the Berlin and Shanghai International Film Festivals
  • Nick Deocampo – director of Centre for New Cinema, director, writer, jury member at international film festivals
  • Anna Har – festival director of the FreedomFilmFest, documentary producer/director and a board member of KOMAS, a popular communications centre working on human rights and democracy.

Incentives to join the Sabah Pitching Forum in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah:

  1. The KKIFF is willing to cover the cost of accommodation for 2 nights in Kota Kinabalu for 1 person on each film project being pitched at the Sabah Pitching Forum (up to 12 pax).  If 2 people want to come to pitch one project, we can offer a very special rate.
  2. We will also provide a food allowance for 1 person per project for 2 days.
  3. Free transport to and from the venue will be provided.
  4. A KK City Tour on Sunday, 8 June is an optional extra for participants, at their own expense.
