Yet another exciting year for the Kota Kinabalu International Festival (KKIFF) as it plans for its 15th edition in September of this year. After a recent meeting with Mr Julinus Jimit, CEO of Sabah Tourism Board (STB), the KKIFF and STB will work together on a special category for filmmakers who want to join the Pink10 Filmmakers’ Competition.
The new category we are adding is: Explore Sabah. This is in addition to the usual three categories of Narrative, Documentary and Indigenous Language.
Filmmakers are encouraged to submit 3-minute videos to the Explore Sabah category through FilmFreeway. The winner will receive a Golden Kinabalu Award, together with RM3,000 and their video will be part of the STB’s advertising campaign next year.
Submissions for the Pink10 Filmmakers’ Competition are open now and close in on 15th August 2024. The judges this year are Mr Hassan Muthalib, Ms Bebbra Mailin and Mr Geoffrey Sinn.
The results of the competition will be announced at the KKIFF’s Awards Night on 15th September 2024 which will be free and open to everyone.
The CINEBALU Screenings (the main portion of the KKIFF) will take place from 7th till 14th September 2024 at City Cineplex, in City Mall Kota Kinabalu. There will be 8 nights of stimulating and thought-provoking shorts and feature films from around Southeast Asia and beyond – this is a unique opportunity to see current films by emerging independent regional filmmakers.
