Hassan Muthalib is a self-taught artist and filmmaker who has been actively involved in the local film industry for almost 50 years. Among the films that he has made are the popular Sang Kancil series and Silat Legenda, Malaysia’s first animated feature film. He is also a part-time lecturer on film & animation & has conducted filmmaking workshops in many countries.
He has been recognized by the Prime Minister of Malaysia as the Father of Malaysian Animation and by the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore as an Asian Animation Pioneer. Hassan has been a jury member of many international film festivals and is also a film critic, speaking weekly on Bernama’s Radio 24 in the programme, BREAKING THE CODE WITH HASSAN MUTHALIB.
His writings on film appear in many books & academic journals overseas. For his achievements, he was awarded an Honorary Masters in Creative Technology by UiTM where he was an Artist-in-Residence.
