Call For Submissions

Are you a Southeast Asian Filmmaker?

We are looking for films to be part of our CINEBALU Screenings for the Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF) 2025!

If you are based in Southeast Asia (including South Korea, Taiwan and HK) and have a film of any genre and length made by or on 19 July 2023, we want to feature YOUR film in our festival!

Short or long, funny or sad, documentary or narrative, animation or experimental… Submit now!

SUBMISSIONS OPEN: 3 January 2025

SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE: 18 April 2025

Submission Guidelines

  1. Submissions can be made by citizens and residents of Southeast Asian countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam), as well as South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
  2. All genres are eligible for submission.
  3. Shorts and feature-length films are eligible.
  4. Films submitted must have been completed on or after 19th July 2023.
  5. Screeners/preview copies for both shorts and feature-length films can be submitted.
  6. Multiple submissions are welcome.
  7. The film can be in any language, but English subtitles are required, even if the language of the film is English.
  8. The submission charge on FilmFreeway is US$8.00.
  9. Copyright for all music and videos used must be owned by the filmmaker. By submitting your film to the KKIFF2025, you agree that the KKIFF2025 will not be held liable for any copyright infringements perpetrated by you or your film.
  10. KKIFF reserves the right to use stills and/or short clips of films submitted to CINEBALU for the purposes of marketing and promotion.
  11. Our preferred festival screening format is DCP, although Blu-Ray or DVD are also possible. If you submit your film as an MP4 file, the KKIFF can convert it to DCP format.
  12. All entries must be received by 11.59pm (GMT+8), 18th April 2025.
