Welcome to the Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF) 2012! Now in its 4th year, KKIFF 2012 promises to be an even more memorable event. Running from 08 – 14 June, it brings to the people of Kota Kinabalu exciting opportunities to watch different international and local movies while learning more about film-making.

Firstly, we will be screening a variety of feature films including movies from France, Japan, Germany and the Philippines. Secondly, we are holding our filmmakers’ competition called ‘Links5’ in which 3 cash prizes totaling RM8000 will be awarded. Anyone who is Malaysian or who lives in Malaysia can enter this competition and participating is free. There will also be a workshop for the ‘Links5Filmmakers’ Competition at which feedback will be given for selected entries.

This year the Sabah Film Forum will be spread over the weekend of 09 and 10 June 2012. There will be 4 workshops: ‘Story-telling’, ‘The Work of the Producer’, ‘What a Cinematographer’s Work Involves’ and ‘How to Write Proposals to Get Funding for Your Movie’. The workshop leaders will be from KL and beyond – people who are well-known in the film industry. All of these workshops are open to anyone who is interested and they are all free.

For the first time, KKIFF 2012 is inviting short film submissions from Malaysian movie makers and a selection of these will be shown for free on 10 June from 7.30pm-9.30pm. There will be Q&A after the screening of each short film so you can learn more about what each director was trying to convey through their work.
