First time to see so much of Henry Cavill and I do see the slight resemblance with Christopher Reeves’s Superman. Although I, at this moment, still feel that Brandon Routh should get a second chance, but I’m also excited to see what the next Superman movie would bring. Partly because, I must add, I really liked Superman Returns.

But onto Immortals. Heavily advertised how it is linked to 300, I believe a lot of expectations and comparisons were made. So naturally, it would fall short.

But it fell more than that as we were introduced to a world where the Immortals weren’t really immortals as well as they, too, were susceptible to death; and very easily as well.

The story didn’t really bring the audience anywhere that would really hook them in into the plight of the protagonist, Theseus, even with a good solid portrayal from Cavill. And the romance between him and Freida Pinto’s Oracle character had no room to show growth. Some really lazy writing were involved here.

John Hurt’s character wasn’t “real”, and that made him even less relatable. As for Luke Evans as Zeus, I thought he did better here than he did in The Three Musketeers just last month. But still, the last battle scene with the other “Immortals” or Gods were another lazy piece of writing. I’m still wondering why his love for Athena played by Isabel Lucas more than his other children.

Stephen Dorff has been out of my radar ever since I last remembered him in Blade. But this time, also nothing memorable about his role – which in itself was quite vague.

And finally, Mickey Rourke as the antagonist Hyperion, wasn’t anywhere close to his role in Iron Man 2.

But one thing for certain, the action sequences were at least somewhat thrilling to watch. And there were enough gore to keep things a bit more realistic.
