There is a lot of interest in Sabah about filmmaking and the potential of Sabah as a centre for the film industry in South-East Asia. The Sabah Film Forum provides a platform for discussion among the different interested parties and allows for the sharing of expertise, as well as professional networking.
With the organising of an international film festival and a filmmakers’ competition, the seeds are being planted for Sabah to become a venue for showcasing movies by newcomers, thus attracting others who are interested in movie making, including those who would like to fund new movies. From such a beginning, Sabah may emerge as a centre for filmmaking in this region.
This 1-day forum will have two parts, integrating two different groups. In the morning, there will be workshops offered by 5 invited professionals from the filmmaking industry. These will be aimed at young people who are interested in a career in movies (those who entered the ‘BLINK5’ Filmmakers’ Competition, students from UMS, KYS, Cosmopoint, INTI College, Sabah Institute of Arts etc.) but open to anyone who wishes to attend. The afternoon will be devoted to opening a dialogue with those involved to differing degrees and in different ways in filmmaking, with a view to gaining an insider’s understanding of the potential of Sabah as a centre for a filmmaking industry.
