Sabahans are very lucky.
Sabah has the Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF), the longest-running independent film festival in Malaysia with

  • movie screenings from all round the world
  • free talks
  • free workshops
  • free training

It also gives filmmakers from the region valuable exposure to internationally respected and recognised film industry professionals.

There isn’t a film festival like this anywhere in Malaysia.

2019 is the KKIFF’s 10th anniversary – it has developed from an event that screened only three French films to a Festival that takes place all over KK and is open to all!

It sees its role as

  • showing movies by independent SEA filmmakers instead of only advertising and highlighting Malaysian made films.
  • promoting film making throughout the region, giving local and regional films equal recognition to international films
  • inviting filmmakers from all over SEA, Taiwan, Korea and HK to submit films, join inspiring workshops and come for busy screenings. This also promotes Sabah to the region as a vibrant, forward-looking place to make and enjoy films
  • being a vital networking opportunity that benefits everyone involved in the film industry.
